Historical places
Oghuz is famous not only for its forests but also for its culture. For many years, Jews and Muslims lived together here. So you can find synagogues, Albanian churches, museums, and lots of old monuments. These are the first things people think about when they say "Historical Places in Oghuz."
Upper Quarter Synagogue
The Upper Quarter Synagogue is one of the main Jewish places in Oghuz. Records say it was built in 1897 with money from local Jewish people. Like other religious places during Soviet times, this synagogue was closed and was used as a warehouse. It was restored between 2004 and 2006 and reopened. Now it serves as a place of worship and remains one of the historical sites.

Lower Quarter Synagogue
The Lower Quarter Synagogue was built in 1849. Local Jews restored it between 1992 and 1994. Even though it's more than 100 years old, the wooden pillars from when they built it are still there today.
History and Ethnography Museum
The museum exhibits archaeological findings, artworks, cold weapons, sculptures and copper work from ancient times to present. Items made of wood, leather and metal like plows, hay forks and irrigation tools show that locals have been engaged in agriculture and animal husbandry since ancient times.
Albanian Church
The Albanian Church dedicated to Saint Elisey, considered a place of worship for the Udi people of Oghuz, is located in the southeast of the district. Built in honor of Saint Elisey, a Christian saint, it served as a place of worship for the local Udi tribes. Today, it preserves traces of the past and is considered one of Oghuz’s symbols.

Mukhas Tower
Mukhas tower is located in the north of Mukhas village near Dashagil Pass. The tower is 11-12 meters high. The tower is part of Oghuz’s ancient history. Its entrance is not at ground level, indicating that it was built for defensive purposes.

Gaurgala
Gaurgala Tower is from the 7th century and it's one of the oldest defensive structures in the area. It sits on a rock and offers wide views of the surrounding landscape. This shows it was really important for strategy in the past.
Surkhaykhan castle
Built from river stones, this tower stands out for both its architectural style and defensive design. Archaeological excavations revealed household items and a copper vessel inscribed with the name Surkhay Khan. Surkhaykhan Castle is a must-visit site for anyone exploring Oghuz.
Nature
Oghuz boasts one of the country’s richest ecosystems. The district is abundant with forests, mountain rivers, natural springs, and meadows. About 40% of the area is covered by dense forests, mainly consisting of oak, poplar, hazelnut, beech, and other tree species. The forests provide habitats for animals such as bears, wolves, deer, and rabbits, as well as various bird species.
Khalkhal waterfall
Khalkhal Waterfall is one of those places everyone talks about in Oghuz district. It is surrounded by dense forests, rocky areas, and a small pool at the base. It is a perfect spot to relax, especially during the hot summer months. You can have picnics, take nature walks and get some great photos. Just make sure you wear good clothes and shoes before you go.

Bash Dashagil waterfall
Bash Dashagil waterfall is one of the natural beauties located in Bash Dashagil village in the Oghuz district of Azerbaijan. The waterfall is set in a mountainous and forested area, with springs and caves nearby. Since the path to the waterfall passes through forested and mountainous terrain, visitors are advised to wear comfortable shoes and exercise caution.
Weather Conditions
Oghuz has a mild, warm, and humid climate. The mountainous terrain causes variations in climate across the region. Summers are pretty mild and cool, around 20–25°C, which is great for summer trips and farming. Winter gets below 0°C and you'll see snow up in the higher areas. Autumn and spring bring lots of rain.
