COVID-19: Changes in Flight Schedule

Only flights to Moscow and London to be operated from Baku in the international directions.

From today onward, "Azerbaijan Airlines" flights in the international direction will be operated only to Moscow and London.

The Baku-Moscow flight will be operated on Thursdays. Departure from Baku is scheduled at 10:40 Baku time, departure from Moscow is at 13:50 Moscow time. The Baku-London flight will also be operated on Thursdays, departure time from Baku being at 19:05 Baku time, and departure from London at 22:05 London time.

In addition, in order to prevent large gatherings of people, "Azerbaijan Airlines" ticket sales offices will be closed. Tickets can be purchased on the website of AZAL (www.azal.az).

We note in particular that  only Azerbaijani citizens will be allowed to arrive to Baku.

Flights will be operated from/to Terminal 2. Only passengers in whose name the flight ticket is purchased will be allowed into the terminal building. Other persons, including accompanying/ meeting ones, will not be allowed in the terminal building.

Once again, we recall that every citizen returning to Azerbaijan undergoes medical examination and is placed in quarantine.

AZAL calls upon the citizens not to leave their homes and not to travel by air without special necessity. The airline kindly asks passengers to be understanding to the measures taken and to show restraint in the current emergency situation confronting most countries of the world.

Baku-Nakhchivan-Baku flights to be operated once a week

In order to prevent the spread of coronavirus infection (COVID-19), scheduled flights of "Azerbaijan Airlines" on the Baku-Nakhchivan-Baku route will be operated once a week on Thursdays starting from March 27.

Therefore, the next Baku-Nakhchivan-Baku flight will be operated on April 2. Departure from Baku is scheduled at 13:10, departure from Nakhchivan is at 15:30.

In addition, in order to prevent large gatherings of people, the "Azerbaijan Airlines" ticket sales offices will be closed. Tickets for the flight from Baku to Nakhchivan can be purchased on the website of AZAL (www.azal.az).

Only the passengers living in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic can fly from Baku to Nakhchivan, and those living in the capital of Azerbaijan - from Nakhchivan to Baku.

Flights will be operated from/to Terminal 2. Only passengers in whose name the flight ticket is purchased will be allowed into the terminal building. Other persons, including accompanying/meeting ones, will not be allowed in the terminal building.

AZAL once again calls upon the citizens not to leave their homes and travel by air without urgent necessity.The airline kindly asks passengers to be understanding to the measures taken and to show restraint in the current emergency situation confronting most countries of the world.

Due to the reduction in the number of flights at the Heydar Aliyev International Airport, from 00:00 on 24 March, all flights will be served through the Terminal 2.

It should be noted that all the structures of Azerbaijan Airlines within the framework of combating the spread of coronovirus infection (COVID-19) continue to work in an intensive mode and in close contact with government structures.

Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) is operating charter flights, as air traffic with a number of countries has been suspended in order to prevent the spread of coronavirus infection in Azerbaijan.

Two charter flights were made to Lankaran International Airport to return Azerbaijani citizens.

On the night of March 21, AZAL transported 48 Azerbaijani citizens on a charter flight from Moscow to Lankaran and they have been quarantined.

In addition, on March 21, AZAL made another charter flight from Istanbul to Lankaran to return 248 Azerbaijani citizens.

More than 9,000 passengers have been transported to Azerbaijan by air from all over the world since March 15

In the current emergency situation that most countries in the world have encountered, we once again urge our citizens to show restraint and understanding. As every citizen returning to our country undergoes a medical examination and quarantines, the date of return of citizens to the country is determined in accordance with preparatory work of the Operational Headquarters under the Cabinet of Ministers. For example, the schedule of charter flights delivering our citizens from abroad is compiled in accordance with preparation of special treatment hospitals and quarantine places, testing of people coming from abroad, logistics for people sent to quarantine, and other details.

We urge our citizens to follow the information on the flight schedule and plan their visits in accordance with this schedule.

As of now, Azerbaijani Airlines (AZAL) as carried out 12 charter flights to Istanbul, Ankara, Antalya, Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Rome and Budapest, ensuring the return of 1743 Azerbaijani citizens, Trend reports referring to the company's press office on March 19.

Due to temporary suspension of traffic between many countries in order to prevent the spread of coronavirus, Azerbaijan’s national air carrier - AZAL - carries out regular charter flights to ensure the evacuation and return of citizens to their homeland.

According to the Azerbaijani government’s order, all appropriate measures have been undertaken to return Azerbaijani citizens back home. All AZAL personnel, including crew members, ticket office employees, continue to work in heavy duty.

AZAL once again asks the citizens to show understanding and patience in the current emergency situation that most countries in the world have faced.

The special measures are being implemented in the country to prevent the spread of the COVID-19. Each Azerbaijani citizen returning to the country undergoes a medical examination, and, if necessary, is quarantined.

Therefore, the date of return of citizens to the country is coordinated with the arrangements of the Operational Headquarters under the Cabinet of Ministers. The schedule of charter flights delivering Azerbaijani citizens from abroad is determined in accordance with the readiness of special clinics and quarantine places and other details.

First, the citizens who have a return ticket to Azerbaijan, the edlerly, persons with young children, and citizens who were treated abroad are brought back.

Other Azerbaijani citizens being abroad are required to pass registration at the country's embassies and consulates in the states where they stay, strictly follow the schedule established for return and demonstrate discipline, order and civil liability in an emergency situation which occurred in the international air travel system, not to allow agitation and provocation.

AZAL once again informs the population that uninterrupted operation of charter flights will be ensured to bring back citizens to Azerbaijan.

March 18, 2020

On March 18 AZAL operated two more charter flights to return Azerbaijani citizens.

By the flight Istanbul-Baku, AZAL delivered 230 passengers , by the flight Rome-Baku - 161 passengers.

Earlier four more charter flights were carried out, 868 Azerbaijani citizens were transferred from Turkey.

The national carrier of Azerbaijan will continue to carry out charter flights to return citizens to their homeland.

March 17, 2020

Azerbaijan’s national air carrier, on behalf of the government, made a charter flight from Baku to Ankara return citizens of Azerbaijan from Turkey.

This flight delivered 157 Azerbaijani citizens to their homeland.

Recall that this is the third charter flight from Turkey - earlier, on March 15 and 16, 711 Azerbaijani citizens were delivered from Istanbul to Baku.

The national carrier of Azerbaijan will continue to carry out charter flights to return compatriots to their homeland.

It should be noted that Azerbaijani citizens who wish to return to their homeland must contact the embassies or consulates at their location.

In connection with the decision to temporarily suspend flights between Azerbaijan and Turkey, Azerbaijan Airlines carried out another Baku-Istanbul-Baku charter flight on March 16 to return Azerbaijani citizens remaining in Turkey.

Flight from Istanbul landed in Baku at 22:04 Baku time, 237 Azerbaijani citizens were delivered to their homeland.

Recall that earlier, on March 15, 474 Azerbaijani citizens were delivered from Istanbul to Baku.

March 15, 2020

 Due to the temporary closure of air traffic between Azerbaijan and Turkey, Azerbaijan’s national air carrier is organizing charter flights to Turkey on instructions from the government.

These flights will bring Azerbaijani citizens back home.

Thus, 474 Azerbaijani citizens will be brought to Baku by today's charter flight from Istanbul. Another charter flight is scheduled for tomorrow.

Furthermore, AZAL will soon operate a charter flight to Antalya, from where Azerbaijani citizens, who are currently in Antalya and Alanya, will be brought home.

As previously reported, due to the epidemiological situation in different countries, National Air Carrier of Azerbaijan made a decision to refund or exchange tickets for all cancelled directions, as well as exchange tickets for all existing ones upon request of passengers.

Taking into account numerous requests from passengers, the following additions are also introduced:

- due to the closure of air borders of Ukraine, passengers who have purchased tickets for Buta Airways flights to Kiev, Lviv, Kharkiv and Odessa will be able to return or exchange tickets free of charge regardless of the fare;

- government officials, medical personnel and students may return or exchange tickets for all AZAL and Buta Airways flights free of charge upon submitting a document confirming their status;

- all passengers who have purchased tickets for AZAL and Buta Airways’ flights, regardless application date, can change departure/arrival dates free of charge and without paying difference between fares. For this purpose, the ticket should be presented (printout or scan);

- each ticket can be exchanged without penalty only once.

Currently all the services of UAB "AZAL" are working in enhanced regime. We ask all passengers to be patient and treat with understanding when contacting the airline's call center and support service. All passengers will be answered, all requests on return and exchange of tickets will be executed in the order of their receipt.
